Critical Mass

To bring an idea, belief, trend, etc to the forefront, we often need a critical mass. The critical mass is important for the growth and sustenance of society, technology, behaviour, etc. Critical mass can also create collective unconsciousness. When one gets the shade of anonymity of the group, it is easier to take the liberty to become primitive. To restrain collective unconsciousness, another group is required to discourage the activities of such a critical mass. Media can play a critical role in forging the critical mass. What percentage of the population is required to create a critical mass? According to one study, it is 10%. It says, when the number of committed opinion holders is below 10%, there is no visible progress in the spread of ideas. When it is more than a certain percentage, the belief of people in that group remains unaffected by pressures. There is another opinion. It says that people do not like to have an unpopular opinion and are always willing to come to a consensus. We need to think over these issues, if we are serious to resolve some of our current issues.
