“Most people believe the mind to be a mirror, more or less accurately reflecting the world outside them, not realising on the contrary that the mind is itself the principal element of creation,” said Rabindranath Tagore.
Enslavement of the mind is worse than the political subjection, and as has been pointed out, political subjection impacts the outer life of the people, whereas “slavery begins when one ceases to feel the evil and it deepens when the evil is accepted as a good”. When this happens, the real mind is replaced by the shadow mind. Such enslaved mind does great harm to us. It trains us to be fully dependent. It trains us not to produce but to borrow. It produces in us a feeling of inferiority. Some amount of enslavement is inevitable. Too much of it makes one fully captive, entrapped to others ideas. A reasonably independent follower is an asset to a leader. They don’t wait for instruction all the time before undertaking anything. That’s they say, unless you are a good follower you can’t be a good leader. You can be an asset despite sometimes giving the impression of a liability. Think of it, are you happy surrounded with the slaves always eager to obey your orders? When there is no one to lead, come forward to lead yourself.
